Shasta Builders Exchange CEO Addresses Realtors
INDUSTRY NEWS, SHASTA COUNTY
July 13th, 2009
Last week, Kent Dagg, CEO of the Shasta Builders Exchange jokingly greeted a group of Realtors stating “Glad to see a group of people not in uniform!” All kidding aside, Kent wanted to squash rumors that the exchange was folding and the school was going out of business.
More than 900 people have graduated from the school since it opened. All students are drug screened and their driving records scrutinized before they can enroll. The training is designed to make workers more aware of safety risks in hopes of preventing on-the-job injuries.
Kent also mentioned the Agree Park homes which were recently moved to the Parkview neighborhood. The homes will be sold to qualified low-income home buyers. Interested parties should contact the City Housing Department in Redding for applications. Those that qualify will be put in a drawing for the three homes that are expected to sell between $98,000-$105,000. No date has been set for the drawing. Only one application had been received thus far.
Local contractors are gearing up to take advantage of some of the federal stimulus grants that will be targeted to home weatherization programs for low-income households. He stressed that the program will focus on making homes more energy efficient using insulation and weather stripping but not window retrofits. The selection of recipients may be delegated to the utility department. Kent speculated they may search their records for homeowners that have high utility bills and delinquencies. Details are sketchy at present.
The 800 members of the Builders Exchange pay $350/year to access roughly 2500 project plans/year that are put out to bid. In many cases, the project plans and specifications are uploaded to their website so member contractors can view them and work up bids from the convenience of their home or office.
