TOUR REDDING LIKE GEORGE JETSON
REDDING LIFESTYLES, REDDING RECREATION, SHASTA COUNTY
September 3rd, 2008
Although not exactly like his aerocar, Shasta Glide ‘n Ride offers Segway tours of the Sacramento River near downtown Redding. All tours start at Turtle Bay Museum and cross the beautiful Sundial Bridge. Depending on the tour chosen, you can see the Arboretum, Turtle Pond, the fish ladder at Caldwell Park and the stress ribbon bridge at the north end of the Sacramento Trail. Off road rides are under development.
All rides start with a 10-15 minute tutorial on how to safely maneuver the land robots that will whisk you away to your selected destination. The guides will take groups of up to 10 people that weigh between 100-260 pounds each. You must be 16 years or older, agree to ride respectfully and sign a waiver. The company provides a helmet and a free cooling vest for those hot summer days.
The guides will tell stories about area history and point out wildlife along the way. Raccoons, beaver, otters, turtles, deer and bald eagles are spotted from time to time. Depending on the season, salmon may be visible at the fish ladder at the Lake Redding diversion dam. Many photo ops will present themselves as you jet along on the paved trails that parallel the Sacramento River.
I’ve heard it’s a blast. Hope to give it a try someday soon. Some like it so such they want to buy one. Segway sales are also available through Shasta Glide ‘n Ride. Here’s what some satisfied customers had to say:
- “Most fun I’ve had. Like snow and water skiing at the same time”-Sandie-Louisiana
- “Really enjoyed it! Very fun and crew very knowledgeable. Thanks, we’ll be back!-Dan & Cheryl -Nevada
- “It was redamndiculously fun”-Jeff- California
- “I thought it would be fun and it turned out to be funner!“-Mark-California
- “Super! Great guide, lots to see, easy to use. Fun, fun, fun!!” Al-California

Sounds like we have a hit here in Redding. Even if George sticks with his aerocar, Jane, Judy and Elroy would probably find this method of transport agreeable! Sorry Astro, no dogs allowed!
All kidding aside, this is another great opportunity here in Shasta County to show those out of town guests the natural beauty of our area in a way they will not soon forget!
